House Refurbishment

Life

Less noise, More intention | Family 🏠 | Travel 🛫 | M&E Estimating & off site Project Support 📊

About Me

I’m Tom.

For over twenty years I’ve worked in business and construction, managing projects, contracts, systems, people, and the pressure that comes with all of that. I’ve spent a lot of time being reliable, responsive, and switched on — and I’m proud of that work.

But over time, I started to realise that a full life doesn’t need to be full all the time.

Point Du Jour is where I’m recording a shift I’m making — from living at full speed to living with intention.

I’m still working, still building, still creating. I just care more now about how my days feel than how busy they look from the outside.

This site follows that process in real time.

You’ll find writing about:

  • Life and work as they really intersect

  • Travel, time spent outdoors, and being in motion without rushing

  • A long-term restoration project in France that has taught me patience, humility, and how to work with my hands again

  • Family, dogs, memories, and the small moments that don’t show up on CVs

  • Choosing calm over chaos, and substance over noise

The French house is part of the backdrop - a place that slowed me down and gave me space to think - but Point Du Jour isn’t about a property or a destination. It’s about building a life that feels steady, meaningful, and lived rather than performed.

I don’t have a master plan or a polished end goal. What I’m working towards is simpler than that:

  • More presence

  • Less distraction

  • Work that supports life, not consumes it

  • Time to notice, reflect, and remember

Point Du Jour was the name of the house when we bought it but now its a mantra, something to live by its my way of holding onto those intentions with a personal archive of days, decisions, and seasons.
